しかし創世神話にはケツァルコアトルと協力して大地の怪物と戦い、自らの右足を犠牲にすることでケツァルコアトルを勝利へと導き天地創造を行ったとされているものも存在する。また、落ちてきた天をケツァルコアトルと共に柱となって支えた（これが現在の世界なのだ）という神話もある。
それにより戦いを通じての変化、もしくは自己犠牲の神なのではないかという見識もある。
